The 2016 Portuguese special 2 Euro coin has the theme of the Olympic Games. The coin has been developed in cooperation with the Portuguese Olympic Committee by Joana Vaconcelos. On the coin is an image of an artwork by Joana Vasconcelos called the "independent heart". Portugal wishes to express the heart of the Portuguese athletes participating in the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. The æindependent heartÆ appeared as an image thousands of years ago and came to Europe (Portugal) from Africa where the heart has been worked into jewellery. Joana Vasconcelos has made beautiful, large-scale plastic works of art, sometimes with cutlery worked in! Furthermore, the Portuguese logo of the Olympic Games is shown on the coin. On the left side of the coin is the name Joana Vasconcelos and on the right side of the coin the text "Equipa Olimpica de Portugal 2016" is printed. This coin is presented a Coincard. On the coin you can see an image of an artwork by Joana Vasconcelos called the "independent heart". This heart is ve ry beautifully depicted on the Coincard. The coin quality is BU and the Coincard issue is only 10,000 copies.
