The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite brings the best features of the Note 10 at a much affordable price and its totally worth it.
To understand Samsung's Galaxy Note 10 Lite, it's important that you know what you want from the company's Note lineup. If it's the high-end specs and hardware that Samsung tends to push with its annual Note upgrade, then the Note 10 Lite isn't for you. But if you want all the Note 10 features, or at least the best ones, then this is the phone to get. Let me explain.I've been using the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite for a couple of weeks now and I have noted all my pointers that I need for this review. So let's see what this phone is and also, what it isn't.Design & Build QualitySamsung is known for the design and build quality of its phones, and I am glad that they've started giving the same flagship-level treatment to other phones too. The Note 10 Lite is not a flagship phone. However, I'd say it looks like one. Our unit comes with this finish called Aura Glow and it looks absolutely stunning.© MensXP/ Karthik IyerSamsung has used plastic instead of glass here on the Galaxy Note 10 Lite. So, it's definitely not as premium as its expensive brother. But I'd be lying if I said it feels cheap in the hand. At no point did the Galaxy Note 10 Lite make me feel like I am using a mid-range phone that costs less than Rs 40,000. That's really great in my opinion. In terms of the size, the Galaxy Note 10 Lite is just as tall as the Galaxy Note 10+, which means it'll be difficult to use if you have small hands. But luckily the phone isn't thick or super heavy. The Galaxy Note 10 Lite also has all the essentials like a USB Type-C port, a headphone jack, and an in-display fingerprint scanner.© MensXP/ Karthik IyerOh yes, the Galaxy Note 10 Lite also comes with an S Pen too and I am happy to report that it's the same one that you get with the Galaxy Note 10+. It's the same S Pen that slides right into the phone from the bottom, and you get to use most of the features too. You can head here to find out all the cool things that you can do with the S Pen on this phone.Overall, I really like the design and the build quality of the Galaxy Note 10 Lite. It's got a premium build quality and a nice design that makes it look like a full-fledged premium flagship device. If you like the design of Samsung's premium phones then there's nothing to complain about here.© MensXP/ Karthik IyerDisplayThe Galaxy Note 10 Lite has a 6.7-inch display on the front with a punch-hole camera cutout on the top. On paper, it's not a flagship-grade display, but it looks just as good as any other display that we have seen on flagship phones. It's a typical Samsung AMOLED panel, so it's got great viewing angles, deep blacks, and vivid colors.© MensXP/ Karthik IyerIt also gets fairly bright and is easy to see even under direct sunlight. I'd also like to point out that the punch hole on top of the Galaxy Note 10 Lite is smaller than what you'd find on the Galaxy Note 10 and the Galaxy Note 10+. However, the bezels on both the top and the bottom are a tad bit bigger here. Not a deal-breaker, but still something worth making a note.During my usage, I thoroughly enjoyed using the phone for watching movies, playing video games, and more. It also has Wideline L1 certification, so you can watch HD content from platforms like Netflix, Hotstar and more. There's also an in-display fingerprint scanner that's part of the display. Honestly, I quickly switched to face recognition for unlocking the phone because the fingerprint scanner can be a little slow.I first thought it was due to the screen-protector that it comes with it out of the box, but no. Maybe I am spoilt for choices with so many other good scanners out there, I think Samsung can definitely improve this.PerformanceThe Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite is powered by the Exynos 9810 chipset. Yes, it's an old chipset that debuted with the Galaxy S9 a couple of years back. That being said, you're not going to face any performance-related issues whatsoever. For day-to-day usage, this is perfectly fine and it takes care of all the basic functions just fine.Everything from opening apps to switching between them is super snappy. The software also plays a huge role here and Samsung has done a really commendable job when it comes to One UI. The Galaxy Note 10 Lite is running on One UI 2.0 that's based on Android 10.Here's a quick look at the benchmark number that I got on Geekbench 5 -© MensXP/ Karthik IyerWhen it comes to gaming, I'd say the Galaxy Note 10 Lite handles everything pretty well. Even some heavy titles like PUBG Mobile, Call Of Duty Mobile and Fortnite ran pretty smoothly without any lags or stutters. The Galaxy Note 10 Lite also comes with up to 8GB RAM, which is good for any phone in 2020.Of course, you can choose to buy phones with up to 16GB RAM these days, but that's not going to make much of a difference if I am being completely honest. Overall, the Galaxy Note 10 Lite is a kickass phone with superb performance. Yes, it's using an old chipset, but the performance is still significantly better than what you get on the mid-range phones in this price bracket.CameraThe Galaxy Note 10 Lite sports a triple-camera setup at the back which includes a 12MP main sensor, a 12MP telephoto lens, and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera to offer a well-rounded and versatile setup. It's exactly what we've come to expect from a modern-day smartphone, so no complaints there. On the front, there's a 32MP selfie shooter, just like the Galaxy S10 Lite. So, how's the camera performance? Well, here are some samples for you to check out - I recently went to spend a weekend in Jodhpur and I took the Galaxy Note 10 Lite to shoot pictures. I was a little skeptical because I had left my trusty Pixel 3a XL back home, but I was more than satisfied with the images that the Galaxy Note 10 Lite gave me.The main 12MP sensor found here was a flagship offering in 2018. So it's not a bad sensor by any means and it shows in the image quality. The photos that I took in daylight came out exceptionally well. Pretty accurate color reproduction and good dynamic range.© MensXP/ Karthik IyerEven the low-light photos came out with very good details, which isn't something I can say about other phones in this price range. Even the portrait shots that I took came out surprisingly well with great edge-detection. Lastly, there's also a Pro mode for people like me who like to tweak every image before capturing.Battery LifeThe Galaxy Note 10 Lite sports a 4,500mAh battery which is the same as the Galaxy S10 Lite. During my usage, the Galaxy Note 10 Lite easily managed to last an entire day without any issues. This is with medium-to-heavy usage with intense gaming sessions and after hours of watching shows and movies on and Netflix.© MensXP/ Karthik IyerHowever, we noticed that the Galaxy S10 Lite lasts longer than the Galaxy Note 10 Lite. Well, that's probably due to the Snapdragon 855 chipset that's based on the 7nm process that is bound to be more power-efficient. Here, on the Galaxy Note 10 Lite, we have an Exynos 9810 which is based on the 10nm process. As for the charging times, the Galaxy Note 10 Lite gets charged very quickly, thanks to the 25W fast charging. You can go from 5% to 50% in just 30 minutes and that's really handy in case you forget charging the phone overnight for the next day.The Final SaySo, should you buy the Galaxy Note 10 Lite? If you want the S Pen, then yes. In fact, this phone brings all the best features of the Galaxy Note 10+ at an affordable price, making it the cheapest Galaxy phone with a stylus. As I've mentioned earlier, the S Pen is a great productivity tool. It's just one of those things that you don't miss until you use it on a day-to-day basis.© MensXP/ Karthik IyerEven without the S Pen, the Galaxy Note 10 Lite is a solid mid-range phone with a stunning design, good display, and kickass cameras. But if that's not your thing, then I suggest you check out the Galaxy S10 Lite. We reviewed it recently and we ended up liking it a lot more than any other phones we've used in recent times. Honestly, I wasn't sure what Samsung was doing when they announced these new Lite phones. But after using them, I can tell you that they're superb phones and you will definitely not regret buying them.
